Just had an incredible dining experience in Happy Valley tonight! I ventured into the world of high-quality Izakaya at Zankyou Izakaya, and it was beyond amazing! The atmosphere was serene, making it the perfect spot to unwind with friends on a peaceful evening. 1⃣ Uni with Onsen Egg x2 ($108 each): The star of the show! The combination of rich sea urchin, onsen egg, and special soy sauce with salmon roe was an explosion of flavors. 2⃣ Cold Bean Curd with Crab Paste ($68): A refreshing dish with a delightful crab paste that perfectly complemented the silky bean curd. 3⃣ Foie Gras Toast x2 ($65 each): Crispy on the outside, with a luscious foie gras filling and a special sauce that was simply divine. 4⃣ Flying Fish Roe ($22): Fresh and bursting with flavor, these little pearls of roe were an unexpected delight. 5⃣ Pork Belly and Perilla with Mustard ($38): Tender pork belly paired with fragrant perilla leaves and a tangy mustard sauce. A harmonious combination of textures and flavors. 6⃣ Chicken Cartilage ($28): Crispy and addictive, these little bites of chicken cartilage were a true guilty pleasure. 7⃣ Grilled Salmon Bone and Belly ($58): Succulent salmon belly and crispy salmon bone that satisfied our seafood cravings. 8⃣ Japanese Okra ($32): A simple yet delicious dish featuring fresh and crunchy okra, a refreshing addition to the meal. 9⃣ Fried Rice with Urchin ($138): A luxurious and flavorful fried rice topped with generous helpings of creamy sea urchin. The total bill came to $803, including a 10% service charge.

Good service but the food is rather normal. Nice setting thought.

Traditional Japanese sushi/sashimi and other options. Has counter seating so you can watch the preparations, or booth if you multiple people. Best sushi I’ve had in Hong Kong

Nice local Japanese restaurant. Have only dined during lunch ‘special’ period. Good selection of options to choose from, I went with a minced toro bowl. Quality of food is good, including the sides and starters, and the prices are very reasonable.

While restaurants were charging arm and leg on X'mas eve, Zankyou allows you to order a-la-carte on the special day and I was able to make a last minute reservation. Seating is tight but the service here was excellent. Staff were friendly where they explained their menu and walked us through the daily special. I've ordered sushi roll, soba, uni fried rice, cheese rice cake and lots of appetizer (didn't take pictures as I was dining with 2 kids) but ended up paying a very reasonable price. Looking forward to return without the kids and to truly enjoy the food.

The food is yummy in general, particular for the clam soup, dry fish and grilled eels! My friend and I tried many skewers and most of them are really good. Chicken kidney and chicken with green onion are standard, not as good as the others. The baby tuna is the special dish, it’s quite special. Would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a decent Japanese restaurant in HV.
